Drueke chess games were prominent in the USA from nearly 100 years.
Established in 1914 by William Drueke, the Michigan based company thrived for decades until 2010 when the last remaining production wooden chessboards were sold.

Pronounced (droo-key), Drueke’s wooden chess boards were the mainstay of the product line ranging in sizes from 15″ to 26″. The walnut and maple hardwood furniture perfect finish and precision manufacturing were loved by chess players through the country and the world.

William Drueke was a salesman for a stationary company, but then a Drueke customer saw a rum box (used for holding playing cards) and suggested Drueke begin producing chess sets, as World War I had disrupted their importation. Since Grand Rapids had plenty of skilled woodworkers, the work could be jobbed out.
In the early 20th century all chess sets sold in the United States were manufactured in Europe. With the outbreak of World War I in 1914, the supply of chess sets to the U.S. ceased. Drueke was given some sample pieces, and he came up with the chess sets.

Why are shipping costs so high?

The shipping cost is determined by the postal service which is described below Due to the various sizes and weights of the items in my shop I unfortunately cannot offer free shipping

USPS has discontinued Regional Rate Box prices. This means that this mail class is no longer available
USPS uses Cubic Pricing rates which are determined by package dimensions and distance traveled instead of weight
